Content: 100ml
This textile paint from Schjerning is for decorating fabric (This is almost literally what Batik means). The paint can be used for completely dyeing fabric, but is most often used for creating patterns on fabric. For fully dyeing, you can choose to do it in a dye bath or the washing machine. Pattern making can only be done through a dye bath. Patterns can be made in many different ways (You can also find a lot about this on the Internet), think about using rubber bands, pegs, strings, clips and more.
Note: The dye can only be used on Cotton and works best on a white fabric, if the fabric already has a color the dye will blend with it or is barely visible.
One bottle is 100ml and this is sufficient for 700 grams of fabric, however, the black Batik paint needs more and therefore at 100ml only suitable for 350 grams of fabric. This textile paint only becomes wash fast by using a special Batik fixative (you can also find it in our assortment).
Directions for a dye bath:
- Start by filling a pan or large container with 2 liters of warm water.
- Dissolve 1 kilogram of normal fine salt in the water bath.
- Pour another 4 liters of warm water into the pan/tray (30-60 degrees, the warmer, the darker the color will turn out. So for lighter colors use less hot water).
- Add 100ml of Batik and 200 grams of fixative.
- Stir this well.
- Now the fabric can be submerged (so possibly with rubber bands etc. to create the patterns).
- Leave the fabric in the dye bath for between 5 and 20 minutes. The longer, the darker the color.
- After this, wash the fabrics out under the tap until the water looks clear again.
- The fabric can now be washed out in the washing machine.
For fully dyeing in the washing machine, first dissolve the Batik paint with the fixative and fine salt in 1 liter of water after which the fabric together with the made liquid can be put into the drum. Then wash this between 30-60 degrees.
